We teamed up with Massively.com at Cologne's Gamescom 2010 to talk to key MMO developers about their products. With Maverick being obsessed with game trailers we took the opportunity to look at their video marketing specifically to find out what they look for in a trailer. It is very important for marketeers of games to demonstrate the promise of the game, specifically showing the typical gameplay a player can expect. With NCSoft's upcoming Vindictus we saw a stunning trailer in full CG; it could be argued that the game itself, using a modified version of the Source Engine, could just as easily have achieved a beautiful cinematic trailer using only actual game footage. The Engine vs CG (and even live-action) question is one that particularly interests us here at Maverick and something we plan to explore in future blog posts. In addition to the worlds greatest game convention - Cologne is also famous for it's hospitality and beer. Watch both parts of our GC2010 story below.
